Jayne Beske, age 72, of Big Canoe died March 24, 2013, after a long and heroic battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Minnesota and received a B.S. in nursing from the University of Minnesota. She and her husband Alan met at the university and Jayne worked as a nurse while he completed graduate school. Jayne and Alan lived in numerous states due to corporate transfers. They relocated to Roswell, Georgia, in 1984 and retired to Big Canoe in 2002.
Jayne’s nursing positions were in pediatrics, intensive coronary care, schools and hospice and she served as a volunteer nurse for ten years at the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper.
Jayne was very active in her children’s school activities and the Fulton County Supporters of the Gifted. For many years she coordinated the PTA’s annual creative arts Reflections program in north Fulton County.
While living in Big Canoe, Jane loved to play golf and go on hikes. She was a member of Big Canoe Chapel and the Chapel’s Women’s Guild, the Big Canoe Writers Group, Ridgerunners and the Wildflower Bunch. She was a talented pianist and poet. She loved to travel with Alan and her family and went on mission rips to Jamaica, Nicaragua and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Survivors include Alan Beske, her husband; daughter Heather Beske of Cookville, Tennessee; daughter Melissa Beske of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter Shannon Grice, her husband Bill Grice and their sons Connor and Hunter of Johns Creek, Georgia and her sister, Gail Dominski of St. Paul, Minnesota.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 28, at 3:00 p.m. at the Big Canoe Chapel with The Reverends Len Walker and Lamar Helms officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center of Jasper, 175 Samaritan Drive, Jasper, GA 30143.
