GriefShareSandra Hintze, one of GriefShare’s leaders, reports a new GriefShare support group will meet on Mondays from 7:00–8:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Broyles Community Center in Sunday School classroom 101 beginning January 4, 2010, through March 30, 2010.

If you have recently suffered the loss of a loved one, it may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. You may find not many people understand the deep hurt you are feeling. That’s the reason for GriefShare, a support group for people who are experiencing the loss of someone dear. The group is led by caring people who DO understand how you feel and want to offer comfort and encouragement during this difficult time in your life.

Sandra Hintze and several other group leaders fostered several GriefShare seminars at Big Canoe Chapel over the past seven years. Many people have been greatly helped through dark times in their lives and have been guided to make the remarkable journey from mourning back to a more joyful life. Long after the seminars have ended, groups often meet socially and many deep friendships have formed during the GriefShare experience.

At each weekly session a video is shown, featuring experts on grief as well as various testimonies by ordinary people who have walked through their grieving process. At the end of the video, there is a time to share feelings and listen to others in the group share their experiences.

The seminar is non-denominational while featuring biblical insights into grief and recovery from sadness. Many of your questions may be answered during the group sharing time or from watching the helpful videos.

If you have a friend or relative who is walking through the difficult valley of grief, please tell that person about the GriefShare seminar beginning in January.

There is a nominal charge for printed materials used. For more information, call Sandra Hintze at (706) 579-2248.

Community Assistance Team

The Community Assistance Team (CAT) is a volunteer organization sponsored by Big Canoe Chapel to assist Chapel members and others who are in need.

CAT volunteers offer a variety of services, including driving people to doctors’ appointments, driving them to hospitals for therapy and picking up prescriptions at local drug stores.  One of the greatest and most frequent services provided by CAT volunteers is preparing and delivering meals to folks who are recuperating from surgery or illness, family emergency or loss of a loved one.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share with each other their experiences, their strengths and their hopes so that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership. The program is self-supporting through our own contributions.
