Over the next three months, we want to share with you
the stories of some of these worthwhile
organizations, and the work
they are able to do through the benevolent
giving of the Women’s Guild.
NOA (No One Alone) - NOA is a state-certified (by the
Department of Human Resources) domestic violence shelter for women and
children. Their designated primary areas of service are Dawson and
Lumpkin counties.NOA provides: emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis line,
legal advocacy, individual counseling, support groups, case management
and financial assistance, children’s programs, parenting classes,
school programs concerning prevention and community education.
NOA’s goal is to eliminate domestic violence in Dawson and Lumpkin
counties. NOA believes everyone has the right to live free of violence
and fear.
Tiny Stitches - Tiny Stitches is a 501© (3) non –profit
organization providing layettes for indigent newborns in rural North
Georgia. Volunteers sew, knit, crochet and quilt baby clothing to help
families provide clothing for their newborns. Many infants are born
with their mothers having had little or no prenatal care. Some go home
wrapped in only a towel and sadly, some never make it home.Tiny
Stitches provides burial ensembles to any family who suffers the loss
of an infant, regardless of their financial status. These layettes and
burial ensembles are given anonymously.
Prevent Child Abuse Pickens (PCAP)
The goal of PCAP is “Child abuse must be stopped before it starts”.
Prevention not only saves children from harm, it saves the county and
state millions of dollars that are allocated for intervention and
treatment of abused children. Through planning and implementing a
variety of public awareness programs, such as parent education and
support groups, PCAP is dedicated to meeting the needs of Pickens
County.PCAP’s Healthy Families program provides home visits to families
before and after the birth of a child. It assists first-time parents
develop a positive and nurturing relationship with their newborn,
supports parents with information and skills and educates parents about
infant/child development.
